Re: Rants

It's cramp. I get the same from time to time (with exactly the same trigger). It's horrible way to wake up.

My normal tactic is to rub my calf muscle hard with my knuckles whilst whimpering like a little girl.

Re: Raspberry Pi

It can't be upgraded, but you might want to look at the new Pi 3 that's just been released. Faster CPU and GPU, and 1GB RAM. Depending on which version of the Pi you're currently running then it could be a substantial step up in performance!

89/100

It was interesting - I got one atrocious score (35ish) that ruined my average, but it looked 'right' to me. 3 or 4 '100's though.

Clever typography folks: in the industry, is this all done by eye, or are there algorithms that guide you?

Re: Crazy bastard weather

I had to scrape the car windows this morning, and turned the heater fan up from '1' to '2'.

It's finally winterish!

Indeed. And the kettle is 'almond cream' in colour, which is apparently important.

Puncture repair: £14.40.

Also an iron, a kettle and an AC router. I have all the megabits. And crease-free clothes.

Re: Health & Fitness

Nah I was just utterly fucked out my tree on the stuff, was having a shit, about to nip it off, and fell off the bowl. Worst bit was it woke my mum up so she came in and I was lying on the bathroom floor with a log lying behind me surrounded in a moat of Guinness shits, and I was fast asleep....

Re: Dan's NAS/media server stuff

UPS had its first real test over Christmas, as the inclement weather knocked out the power for nearly 3 hours. Server ran on battery for somewhere around 2 hours and then shut itself down once the remaining juice reached 10%. A previous test was my wife switching off the wrong socket when trying to ...

Re: Surface Pro 4

Can you use it as a laptop... on your lap? Or do you need a surface (ha?) to place it on when you're using the keyboard case thing?

I'll quietly admit that (if I were to be upgrading) there's something about the Surface Pro that appeals to me more than a MacBook Pro.

Re: RAM. Is dual channel really that important?

I found this article helpful, when I has a similar question: Memory Scaling on Haswell . I know it's talking about Haswell, and not Skylake, but the conclusions are likely to still hold true. TLDR; [The] importance of order is such that: 1. Amount of memory 2. Number of sticks of memory 3. Placement...
