Re: Kernel Mode Driver

Haven't even started. Either I subconciously posted this thread waay ahead of schedule or I'm a lazy bastard. Who knows? We (me and team) have an existing solution which uses a KM driver to bitbash a piece of truly ancient hardware for a bunch of our clients who do not want to take part in the techn...

Speaker halp

I need advice from someone who is well versed in the atmospheric-pressure variance business. I have a PC, self built, but somewhat unoptimised for auditory tasks with an onboard sound card. And now I've fully healed from my recent-ish implant/cyborg upgrade I am interested in getting the most out of...

Re: Windows 8

Try left clicking the network icon in your system tray. Then you too shall discover the smoothly animated sidebar of uselessness. Seriously. What is it for? So you don't like it because it doesn't do what you think it should. It does do what it was designed to do but like I said, I don't use full sc...

Re: Windows 8

I just don't get why people don't like it. It's just a screen with icons that you can arrange how you like with as little or as many icons as you want. I find it much faster than drilling into menus and sub menus of the old start menu. I don't like the full screen apps though which is why I don't u...

Re: Windows 8

Yep to all the above, but I've learnt to live with it. New update tomorrow, v8.1 is supposed to give a little relief to normal desktop users, but I doubt it. MS is on fuck-up mode these days.

Re: Trivia

I want more pay.

Cost of living has risen sharply. My boss has always promised we'd get more staff to replace the 3 that left 2 years ago. Never did. And work has only increased.

Kernel Mode Driver

Right, I need to code a kernel mode driver. The business I work for has a piece of hardware which has really old drivers, with source, but needs me to update it for newer OSes. KMD is required because the IO and calculation is extremely time sensitive and is not at all willing to put up with typical...

Re: Trivia

My laptop picking method boils down to browsing PCWorld/John Lewis and making a list of model numbers and then getting reviews on them. Then not buying any of them because I'm broke. :(

Re: Trivia

It's OK, but I would avoid the sub-HD screens. 1080p+ or bust IMO.

Re: CRApple stuff

I had to engage my US West VPN to download the update. Kept saying v6 was current.

Re: Apple stuff

I buy my phones outright now. It's cheaper in the long run plus the hardware is unlocked. Very useful abroad. Especially as my job pays my contract.

Re: Apple stuff

Yeah, the storage/price ratio is shite. Yes, the Android Master Race can do everything, but it's Android. . Yes, the 64-bit-ness is a useless bit of marketing bumpf and a funeral dirge for older models. Nevertheless, I shall be heading off to Apple.co.uk get my new iPhone on the 18th. Can you all be...

Re: I need a tool

Bit late to this thread, but please note that Leathermans are technically illegal for everyday carry in the UK. You need to have a good reason for carrying one, and no, 'just in case' isn't good enough. They are locking knives, and AFAIK, considered fixed blades. So be careful. Don't carry them in s...
