Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

Honestly these days I only squeeze the go pedal for overtaking. I'm happier cruising around in comfort at 60-70 on the motorway and keeping things sedate around town. Maybe it's knowing that driving harder doesn't really shorten journey times by much, maybe it's knowing how much fuel usage shoots up...

Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

Sold the BMW on. The further I dug into the timing chain issue the more horror stories I found so I decided to get rid. I looked at the Mazda 6 2.2D but (having done the research *first* this time) found similar issues with timing chains. It looks like a lot of modern diesels with timing chains suff...

Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

Too late. Picked up a cheap BMW 118D (the 143bhp '07 model). Checked for visible smoke, absolutely nothing even when the guy revved the nuts off it. Hopefully it stays that way until the next MOT rolls around in March. Only thing I'm concerned about is premature timing chain failure, which I've hear...

Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

You know nearly all of my miles at the moment are on the motorway, right? Like, 104mi a day. Are diesels really that much more expensive to fill and fix that the economy gains will be neutralised?

Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

Currently refreshing a number of Autotrader searches for fast diesels. Waiting is the hard part :(

Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

No no it's not breaking down, it's a Mazda for heavens sake. It's just consuming an alarming amount of petrol and oil. I'm working at McCann in Birmingham now so commuting at least 550mi a week, plus whatever else for client meetings. That requires me to top up 1-2 litres of oil every weekend, retur...

Re: THE ULTIMATE CAR THREAD

Think I might need a new car. The '3 is costing rather a lot to run these days.

Re: The Film and TV Thread

No no no. If your decision to watch it depends on how long it is and the presence of a red car then please just stay at home. Watch it because it's fast, original, sharp and funny. Watch it because the soundtrack is awesome, the cast are tight and the pace never drops. Watch it because Edgar Wright ...

Suitable 4k TV too?

Next on the list. I was planning to do the Pro / 4K TV upgrade together later in the year but this bundle popped up on the Days of Play sale last week and was too good to miss.

Re: The Politics Thread

I think yesterday's stunt with the "leaked" WhatsApp messages was a reaction to the election fallout by Boris' team to show he has leadership potential and some (extremely tenuous) youth creds - at least more than anyone else in the party has, anyway. That said, he's been shown up time and...

Re: The Politics Thread

I'd say this is probably a more balanced assessment of Labour vs Tory economic policy - http://www.economicshelp.org/blog/7568/ ... 1997-2010/

Take from it what you will.
