A year or two ago I would have voted yes but now I've become used to the standard way so I don't want this to be the only place I come that is wrong.
A slight majority of a statistically worthless sample size agree.

So, is Facebook web compliant? Every link I click there opens in a new tab.

No clue, I don't use Facebook.

FB opens internal links in the current tab and external links in a new tab.

This is probably because FB doesn't want people to leave their site so they can get a few extra pennies from advertising and that the average FB user is a cretin who can't use middle click.

The title needs changing because I assume noone is suggesting all links in this forum open in a new window... if that was the case then after viewing a couple of threads you'd have one very full browser.

So if we assume we're suggesting that external links should open in a new window then what we're really talking about is whether some links should open in new windows while others don't...

Creating a system where the same action can have two different results is not good usability.

So the answer is still no for all the same reasons we thrashed out the last time this came up, and its still the wrong way to do it.

Don't take options away from other users just to force functionality you already have the option of using.

If you don't have a middle button press Ctrl (in FF) or Ctrl + Shift (in opera). Don't see what the big deal is. Leave it the way it is.

My middle mouse button activates Expose on my shiny mac. I've gotten into the habit of right clicking and opening in a new tab.
It's a mess about forum. Web standards mean nowt to me here. I say yes.

I see the results are more than likely Web Devs VS Normal People*
