It's gold cup day here and we work across from a rather nice hotel. Looking outside, here are some cars I can see today:

Bentley Bentayga
Overfinch Range Rover
Range Rovers (x5, various)
Bentley Continental GT
Maserati Quattroporte
Porsche 911 Cabriolet
Mercedes-AMG C 63
Audi RS4 Avant
Jaguar XJ L

plus the requisite gaggle of tweed-clad folk mooching around outside

Still like the new XJ.

Bad news. Helen has said I can have an RX8 and I found a PZ in the classifieds within budget. The temptation is REAL.

Great fun, but I'm not convinced I'd spend the extra on a PZ as the suspension didn't feel that much better over a regular one, albeit wheels are prettier.

If it were me, I'd find the tidiest but cheapest one I could, and then the first thing I would do is get the engine rebuilt (at somewhere like Apex Rotary for £2200) and the Sohn adaptor installed, prob along with the Corvette plugs if budget allows. Then swap the suspension out for something like the BC Racing ones (more than good enough for the budget), new set of brakes all round (even budget ones will be fine, it's not a heavy car) and go from there.

That way, you have a car that you know is mechanically sound for a long time, plus you're protecting that with the Sohn kit, suspension let's you work that brilliant chassis and the brakes just tidy up the rest of the basics. Looking at maybe £5k there, what's the budget?

It's been a few weeks now.
After writing my Fiesta off in an accident (really stupid n00b like!) - Luckily no-one was hurt and it was only the cars that were damaged!

But now I have another car.
I found a Ford Focus nearby which was cheap
It had some foibles! but also was mechanically sound bodywork wasnt perfect and had some rust but not underneath or in structural strong points.
Over the Fiesta - It's bigger faster and more comfortable

What foibles does it have?
The A/C doesn't work so will get that looked at
The rear fog doesn't work - connection issue as when the bulb is pushed into the holder it lights up.
Rear tail light doesn't work - could be a connection issue as the brake light works (its a new stop/tail bulb)
The steering wheel didn't sit straight so I got the tracking sorted and it's handling better

It looks like the windscreen is scratched by some grit in the wipers before I bought it any ideas to get that remedied? or am I best off speaking to a windcsreen person/detailer?

Just get a replacement screen via insurance, must have a chip in it you can use? ;)

Mk1 Focuseseseses are ace, I still miss mine.

Chuck a stone through it, only £75 then.

Agree.

You'll need to throw it with some force.

I found a catapult from close range ensures the chip is in the drivers eye line.

It's £60 to fit another screen, so if I find a decent one from a scrapper then made a saving....or not spent as much as a new screen!

Well if you insist on being honest.
If it's a heated screen then make sure all the elements in the scrap one are functioning. Nothing worse than half a defrosted screen.
