I think it depends on the car, and how you view the finance deal.
If you treat it purely as a rental deal as you have no intentions of staying with the car or the manufacturer when the deal is done, then that's fine. If you treat it as a stepping stone to stay in that manufacturer's set of cars, then that's fine too. If you treat it as a sensible financial decision as you want to keep the car, it's usually borderline madness. And I say that as someone who only ever bought cars using PCP.
Tbh, if it's just a car you need to use to get to work then buy something cheap and something reliable. A nice leggy Honda would do the trick. I certainly wouldn't be splashing out serious cash on a PCP just for a way of getting to work!
