RB: The L series has all sorts of image-stabilisation gizmos in it doesn't it? Does it make a noticeable difference?

Yes, you can shoot at long distance in poor light without a tripod (more than you can an unstabilised lens anyway)

100-400mm and I now have a 2x extender for it. I like perving Very Happy

The Gadget Show done a few tests with shots between the Nikon D80 and the Canon EOS 400D both got good marks but the the Nikon got the better marks over all.
