Did I mention I love my Nokia?
It's so thin and smexy.
It's so simple and clean looking.
Single colour tiles I likes.
I can recolour the tiles to what I want (no black or white tiles allowed????)
I can find all the apps I need for free easily enough.
YAY.

Today I got a software update for my Lumia 820 which adds extra "Livesight" functionality to the maps. I already think that Nokia Maps is pretty excellent because of the accuracy, but Livesight is quite novel (if a little gimmicky) - it basically lets you use your camera to look around you, and overlays places of interest and other markers on the screen in a kind of augmented-reality stylee:

It's gimmicky, sure, but seeing icons and things swivel around as you move the camera makes me feel like I'm living in the future. Or something.

That's actually quite cool.

And exactly the kind of shit Apple should be doing. :(

Here I was thinking that shop fronts had signs and logos on them so that you wouldn't need a phone to tell you you're looking at McDonald's.

I finally got the Lumia Cyan / WP8.1 update earlier this week. The wordflow /swipe keyboard (drag your finger through a series of letters and it will predict the word you're trying to type) actually works more effectively than I first thought, and customisable Start screen / lock screen backgrounds are a welcome feature. Cortana (WP's attempt at Siri) is still unavailable over here - you can activate it by fiddling with the region and language settings so that they are set to United States, but I think Cortana is a bit too gimmicky for me to do this all of the time.

Also it's worth getting the Files app if you don't have it already - it gives a much better breakdown of all the stuff stored on your phone / SD card.

I've got 8.1 too.

I didn't know about the swipe text thing.

What they really need is FOLDERS.
CUSTOM FOLDERS so you can put what you want in them.
It's bizarre that I can't do that.
I just want all my games in the games folder...

Folders is in the next update. I have it now on the developer preview and its very well implemented.

Cortana is also enabled for the UK in the update to 8.1 and works well. I just like it because I can ask her to find emails from a certain person with a certain subject. Saves me a fair bit of time that one, when it works!

Folders YAY.
Hope it's better than the pretend folder apps available now.

I'm never going to use voice control until you have to say "Computer" first and it beeps and speaks like in star trek when it is doing something.
And there has to be a LCARS skin.
