No messing around here - I run it at the full 2560x1600.

One of the reasons I wanted the retina was so I could run two full width windows next to each other - i.e a browser on the left and editor on the right.

With the windows text/icons set to the 150% larger size, everything is small-ish but I find it perfectly legible thanks to the pixel density.

Nice. Forgot that you're running Windows on it - it works slightly differently in OS X.

I've got spousal approval (well... a resigned 'yes'), so I may be following suit!

A resigned 'yes'? Don't trust it! It's a lie!

The money spending is fine, it was more of a " " as I was trying to explain how awesome the new one is compared to my one.

I already know that she'll declare that, since a 13" rMBP looks similar to a 15" MBP, it's the same.

Just kick her out the house.

I've spec this:-

2.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage

Cost is just shy of £2k.

I've added it to the basket, it's just a case of getting the balls to purchase it.

If by "cool" you mean "rich", then yeah, sure.

The two aren't mutually exclusive...

Really not rich. Not poor, but not rich. And to be honest, they last so long, and the resale value is so high that the amortised cost (if that's the right term) is not very high.

This is a fantastic machine. Compact, light, beautiful display, and the battery life is phenomenal. I'm finding myself thinking of it more like my iPad; it lasts 9 hours+ on a charge and lasts 30 days in standby (from which it resumes instantly, thanks to the crazy fast PCIe SSD).

I like.

Yeah, totally. I was originally looking at getting the 15" but so glad I didn't. The size and weight of the 13" is perfect.
