Something to do with the specific chips with specific power requirements. You don't get 10 hours battery life by using just any chip (apparently).
Same reason they top out at 16GB RAM - I'd have gone higher if I could, but they seem to use some special low power flavour of DDR3, and if they used something that went up to 32GB, they'd get reduced battery runtime.
Life is a compromise. I've decided now is the time to go all-in.
