Ok, I broke. It's my birthday and I wanted a new shiny.

I've ordered an almost fully specced up 15" MacBook Pro (couldn't really justify the extra HOW THE FUCK MUCH to get the 2TB version).

4GB GPU and 1TB SSD, coupled with 16GB RAM should tide me over until 2020...

Nice!

Couldn't/can't justify the price of it. So sick.

It'll no doubt be lovely and rapid. Had my MPB for 2.5 years now and it's still perfect!

But the processors are already out of date. Why would anyone buy one?

The performance difference between that and Kaby Lake isn't enough to get me to wait the ~12 months for the next hardware refresh... and then there will be the Next Big Thing that's almost ready.

And there will always be something better just over the horizon. I've been waiting for Skylake in MacBooks since they came out. Now they're here, so I'm going for it.

Kaby Lake CPUs are already in PCs, I don't get why Apple are behind again. They used to be beyond the cutting edge and now they seem to phone it in.

This is no joke but a mate actually said to me when I asked him if he's going to get a ps4/xbone he said and I quote ''Pointless getting the PS4, i'm just going to wait for the PS5 as it'll be better''

Something to do with the specific chips with specific power requirements. You don't get 10 hours battery life by using just any chip (apparently).

Same reason they top out at 16GB RAM - I'd have gone higher if I could, but they seem to use some special low power flavour of DDR3, and if they used something that went up to 32GB, they'd get reduced battery runtime.

Life is a compromise. I've decided now is the time to go all-in.

Knowing me, I'll just be cooing over it saying "ooh... shiny..." but I'll see what I can do :)

True.

Just want to know if that touchbar is worthwhile, seems pointless to me... The massive touch pad seems daft too lol

Apple's latest MacBook Pro has already outsold all competing laptops this year, according to new data shared by research firm Slice Intelligence.

Damn, would have preferred a boycott if you will to get them to drop the price.

So that means they sold 3 as laptops are dead in terms of huge sales.

Ha, valid point!

Although laptops are still essential for me. I barely use my iPad when in the house now it's all on my mac or phone.

And I don't carry my iPad around with me either, phone is perfect for every. I no longer have a desktop now either.

Curious if everyone is the same/similar?

Jo massively relies on her laptop for work, and my main PC at the office is a laptop (so I can take it abroad with me too!). I couldn't and wouldn't want to replace either laptop with a tablet.

iPad is purely for sitting on the sofa/beach and browsing the interwebs.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/7/13548 ... ok-pro-lie

This sums up my thoughts on the latest MBP pretty nicely. It's a fine laptop, but it's not a Pro machine by any measure except price.
