UTF ranges for specific languages

Postby nomis » Sat Mar 07, 2009 1:06 pm

Hello peeps.

Don't know if anyone here as attempted a mutli language flash?

I have everything working fine, except embedding a unicode font for all languages (over 60,000 glyphs) instantly makes the SWF over 7mb before you put anything in it...

The answer is to create SWFs that contain the font with only the characters needed for that language, and loading that in when the language changes.

So my question is how can i find out all the characters needed for a specific language and for bonus points is there anywhere that is likely to document UTF range by country - ie all the characters used by them?

Per language might be cutting it a little fine.

Use region specific fonts (eg Arial mostly has the Latin code blocks, there shall be another font out there that focuses on Cryllic, and another that looks at Hangul / other asian languages)? Or even better work out the common fonts included on a regionalized operating systems and use a system standard font?
